Mission The Director of Public Safety manages the departments of Building, Fire, Police and the Division of Youth Services. The Department of Public Safety’s mission is to provide responsive, courteous, and professional, health and safety services to our residents and all who visit our great community.
Ambulance Billing The health and safety of our residents is of utmost importance. The City of North Olmsted’s safety forces are skilled and ready to assist you and your loved ones in times of need. Please do not hesitate to call for an ambulance for fear of receiving a bill. If you have any questions regarding an ambulance billing, please call Great Lakes Billing at (440)605-9117, or the Department of Public Safety at (440)716-4137. Building Department The Building Department has many different documents available on-line by going to www.north-olmsted.com, click on FORMS, E-GOV HOME, then BUILDING, to view the fee schedules, permit applications, and regulations. These documents can be printed and completed prior to submitting them in-person at City Hall. Check Your Batteries Please take a moment today to check your batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. These life saving devices require your attention to operate properly.
Fire Department For emergencies please dial 9-1-1 to reach the Fire Department. If your call is not an emergency, you can reach the Fire Department at 440-777-1220. Internet Safety Is your Child safe when using the Internet??? Be sure to educate your child about online computer-sex offenders. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has information on-line to assist parents on Internet safety Go to www.fbi.gov for more information Licenses - Peddlers, Solicitors and Canvassers An application must be completed by Peddlers, Solicitors and Canvassers. Upon approval, the applicant is issued a photo I.D. badge signed by the Director of Public Safety that indicates the days the individual is authorized to circulate throughout North Olmsted. A licensed individual may solicit Monday through Saturday, between 9 a.m. and the earlier of sunset or 8 p.m., and their badge must be clearly visible to residents. Non-profit organizations and charitable groups are usually exempted by law, and therefore, they are not required to obtain a permit for the City of North Olmsted. We can not regulate this type of solicitor. If you ever have a concern, we suggest that you do not open your door and contact the Police Department. The Safety Department has available to all residents a sticker that can be placed at your home’s entrance, prohibiting Peddlers, Solicitors and Canvassers from knocking on your door. Residents can obtain a sticker at City Hall or by calling 440-416-4137. If you ever have any questions regarding Peddlers, Solicitors or Canvassers in your area, please feel free to contact the Police Department at 440-777-3535, or the Department of Public Safety at 440-716-4137. Other Licenses & Permits Other License Applications, such as, Game Room & Arcade, Secondhand Dealers, and Teen Dance Clubs can be obtained by calling 440-716-4137. Please also call to obtain Permit Applications for Frozen Dessert Peddlers, Special Events, Temporary Business Permits and Traveling Carnivals. Parking Restriction For the safety of our residents, the City of North Olmsted has an all-night parking restriction. Vehicle parking on any street between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. is prohibited. If you have a situation that requires on-street parking during prohibited hours, please notify the Police Department in advance of this need at 440-777-3535. Permits - Block Parties Any homeowner’ group, association or representative of a neighborhood shall be permitted to have a residential street closed off to vehicular traffic for the purpose of having a neighborhood party, often referred to as a block party. An application can be obtained by stopping by City Hall or by going to FORMS. The application must be submitted at least two business days prior to the event. Safety cones are available to permit holders at the City’s Service Garage. Safety cones can be picked-up two days prior to the event, and must be returned within three days after the event. Permits - Parade and Assemblage All groups or organizations participating in a parade, assemblage or procession must obtain a permit. Application can be obtained at City Hall or by going to FORMS on-line. The permit request must be submitted at least five days prior to the event.
