1951
October 5, became a city (when population reached 5,000). North Olmsted's first industry was opened (Sherwin Williams Company). Radio telephones were replaced by three-way radios.
1955
North Olmsted Police Department purchased its first radar set.
1957
24 full time firemen moved into the two new fire stations at east and west end of the city on Lorain Road. North Olmsted Police Department moved from a one-room office in Town Hall to the old 1929 fire station vacated by the fire department.
1958
Great Northern Shopping Center opened. North Olmsted Chamber of Commerce began. North Olmsted Exchange was formed. First full time police officer was assigned to detective duties and the department's detective bureau was started.
1960
January 1, North Olmsted became a charter city. Full time fire department replaced volunteer department. Olmsted Historical Society was started.
1962
Briggs house moved from Stearns Road to be a part of the Frostville Museum area.
1963
Universalist Church moved to Porter Road.
1964
Dedication of the concrete stadium at the high school to seat 3100 people.
1965
Safety Town was organized and supervised by the North Olmsted Police Department.
1967
North Olmsted Rotary Club was organized.
1974
New police station was built.
1976
Completion of Great Northern Shopping Mall by Saul S. Biskind, developer.
1995
North Olmsted Fire Station No. 1 opened.
1996
North Olmsted High School boy's soccer team won division I state championship.
1998/1999
Town Hall restoration project completed.
2000
Skate park construction began September 18, 2000 to be completed November 1, 2000. Springvale ADA improvements completed. Springvale parking lot improvements project 2000. Bond rating increased to a 2 by Moody's August 28, 2000. Fitch rated North Olmsted A1.
