COMMUNITY LIFE SERVICESThe City of North Olmsted Department of Community Life Services (CLS) has been helping North Olmsted families since 1975.  CLS assists individuals and families in need of food, temporary shelter and other special needs as resources allow.  These other needs have included; utility assistance, benefit verification, and assistance with tax returns for North Olmsted residents.

Advisory Board

CLS is governed by an advisory board.  The board is made up of North Olmsted residents seeking to give back to the community.  They bring together their professional and personal experiences to assist in making decisions on programs that will have the best impact on North Olmsted families in their time of need.

2010 CLS Advisory Board: President Art Boesseneck and members Vera Brewer, Beth Roshetko, Linda Schuler, Rae Spalding, and CLS Secretary, Joanne Hanna.

Eligibility

Eligibility for assistance through the department requires proven financial need and residency within the City of North Olmsted.  Our requirements similar to those of other government assistance programs.  To establish proof of residency and financial need, applicants will be asked to present a copy of certain documents at registration.  These are the 8 most typical documents required:

  • Current or recent month's utility bill
  • Lease agreement
  • Recent W-2 form or paycheck stub
  • Social Security award letter
  • Current unemployment book
  • Child support statements
  • Photo identification
  • Children's birth certificates
  • Most recent years tax return

Confidentiality

Full confidentiality is a vital part of CLS.  The volunteers know of only the need and typically not the family.  However there are some that have monthly contact with the program participants.  Your personal and financial information is kept for our own internal use only.
