Systems Profile
The existing North Olmsted separate sanitary sewer system consists of approximately 840,000 linear feet (approximately 159 miles) of separate sanitary sewer, ranging in sizes between eight inches in diameter to 42 inches in diameter.
The sanitary sewer system became configured around a City-wide naturally occurring drainage divide. This divide runs in a northeast to southwest direction through the center of the City, roughly down Lorain Road. Areas South of Lorain road flow south and east by gravity towards the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) located south of Mastick Road, on Shepards Lane inside the Cleveland Metroparks. Areas north of Lorain road flow to one of 4 major lift stations: Lebern, Dover, Broxbourne, or Bradley Lift Stations, here the sanitary water is pumped back to up, south of the divide before traveling to the WWTP.
Each lift stations serves a specific geographical area of North Olmsted. Lebern Lift Station the eastern most lift station was last rebuilt in 2012, has an average daily flow of 0.52 million gallons (MG) and a maximum pumping capacity of 4.5 MG. Lebern Lift Station also contains 1.5 MG of upstream sanitary detention. Dover Lift Station, just north of City Hall was last rebuilt in 2013, has an average daily flow of 1.3MG and a maximum pumping capacity of 7.9 MG. Dover Lift Station also contains 0.6 MG of upstream sanitary detention. Broxbourne Lift Station, just west of Crocker-Sterns Road was partially upgraded in 2014, pumps an average daily flow of 0.16 MG and can pump a maximum flow of 0.4 MG per day. Bradley Lift Station the western most lift station is currently under construction (2017), has an average daily flow of 0.57 MG, and a maximum pumping capacity of 3.4 MG.
The existing sanitary sewer system took approximately fifteen years to build. The initial construction contracts were awarded in 1960 and the final construction contracts were finished in 1974. Since 1960 the North Olmsted Collection Division has inspected and maintenance the sanitary system, to ensure a high volume of flow is transported to the treatment plant, helping to protect the citizens and the environment of North Olmsted and the Surrounding Communities.
In 1994, a fifth separate sanitary sewer lift station was constructed, south of Lorain Road. The fifth station serves the Moen World Head Quarters and commercial development area next to the Columbia Road/Interstate 480 intersection. This station was installed due to the inverse elevation of the commercial development versus the elevation of the North Olmsted sanitary sewer system. The Moen Lift Station was most recently rebuilt and upgraded in 2016.
