Property Tax Calculation
Property tax collection is handled by the Cuyahoga County Treasurer's office (www.cuyahogacounty.us/, 216-443-7069). Current property tax distribution for 2004, paid in 2005, is as follows: County-16.45, City-13.30, School-77.00, JVSD-2.40, Library-2.0, Metropark-1.85 for a total of 113.00. The City's tax rate has gone down incrementally as debt gets paid down: 2000-13.70, 2001-13.60, 2002-13.50, 2003-13.40, 2004-13.30. The following example can be used to calculate the tax on a $150,000 home: $150,000 x .35 = $52,500, the home's taxable value $52,500 x .07418 (effective tax rate is 74.18) = $3,894.45 $3,894.45 divided by 2 = $1,947.23, half-year payment.
