The North Olmsted Department of Planning and Development is responsible for all programs and activities related to planning and development in the City. Responsibilities include developing and implementing the City's Master Plan, updating the City's Zoning Code, providing guidance to the City's decision makers regarding public and private development, and implementing policies aimed at improving the quality of life and economic well being of the City, including business retention and expansion.
The Department also provides staff support for the Boards and Commissions charged with development review and historic preservation, including the Planning and Design Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Board of Building Code Appeals, Landmarks Commission, and the Arts Commission. With the passage of Issue 34 in 2010, various city departments and divisions were reorganized. As a result, the Division of Building and the Division of Engineering are now a part of the Department of Planning and Development.
