Curbside Garbage and Recycling Collection
City garbage and recycling collection is provided by a private contractor, Republic Waste Services, 1-800-433-1309. Collection day is Wednesday for North Olmsted. When the following holidays fall on a week day, collection for that week is delayed one day (New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day).
Guidelines for garbage collection are as follows:
- Garbage may be placed within 5 feet of the curb no earlier than 6:00 pm on the evening prior to collection, but no later than 6:30 am on collection day.
- Solid waste should be drained, wrapped and kept in waterproof containers no larger than 20 gallon capacity, with lift handles and tight fitting covers. These items may also be placed in plastic or fiber bags made for this purpose and properly tied.
- No container, when full, should weigh more than sixty pounds. If you wish to dispose of a container, it should be clearly marked "TAKE ME".
- Large boxes, cartons, crates, etc. must be flattened, bundled and stacked.
- Dirt, stones/rocks/broken concrete, and/or building materials: If these items are a result of work done by contractors, they WILL NOT be picked up. Residents should arrange for the contractor to dispose of the debris.
Guidelines for recyclable collection are as follows:
- Recyclables are picked up separately from garbage. All recyclables are to be placed comingled in blue bags except for newspaper, which shall be placed in brown paper bags or bundled with twine.
- Aluminum and bi-metal cans: Please rinse and remove paper from all aluminum and bi-metal cans.
- Glass bottles and jars: Rinse containers, remove lids and neck rings. Please, no unused pesticide or herbicide containers, window glass, light bulbs, mirrors or ceramics.
- Plastic containers #1 & #2: Milk containers, plastic bottles and other containers that have the numbers 1 or 2 on them. This excludes motor oil, antifreeze, pesticide and herbicide containers. Place excluded items in with your regular garbage.
- Newpaper: Mentioned above. Only paper product recycled curbside.
