Soccer Sportsplex and Exit 2 Storage

We caught up with Dale Schmidt, owner of Soccer Sportsplex and Exit 2 Storage on the west end of the city, to learn more about his successful businesses operating in North Olmsted. Here’s what he shared with us.

How long have you operated your businesses in North Olmsted? 

We opened Soccer Sportsplex in 1997 followed by Exit 2 Storage in 2004. In the years following we purchased industrial warehouse/mixed use buildings adjacent to our properties which provided space for other businesses to rent, as well as the room for the expansion of Sportsplex Rentals.

What drew you to open up shop in North Olmsted?

I grew up working a family rental business in North Olmsted so I was very familiar with area. The west end of town was a logical start to our businesses with the acquisition of multiple parcels of land that I first began acquiring in 1994. The easy access to I-480 and Ohio Turnpike works for us as well as our patrons/customers.

What amenities do you enjoy within the city? What could be improved?

The shopping and dining experiences available in North Olmsted are very convenient. It would be helpful to have a monument sign at the entrance of the Industrial Parkway to let people know what business are tucked away down the road. In addition, I notice many communities allow signage and visibility of businesses along the highway, which helps to draw people to utilize those businesses as well as demonstrate the viability and desirability of a community where people can live, work and play.

What is a cool fact that most people wouldn’t know about your businesses?

In addition to our primary business at Soccer Sportsplex with soccer leagues, training, youth instruction, and tournaments, we also host some cool trade shows such as the Gem Show, Holistic Health Expo, an arcade and gaming show and Comic Con. We also hold other events such as the Cleveland Choppers Car Show, roller derby and grappling. Sportsplex Rentals has evolved into so much more than tents, tables and chairs… we have staging, lights, linens, as well as catering/event supplies. Looking for a throne or Santa chair? We have that too!

Looking ahead, what’s next for your businesses?

We are always looking for other opportunities to utilize our expansive building at Soccer Sportsplex, especially during the spring and summer when we have fewer indoor leagues. Under construction is our new building where we will move Sportsplex Rentals. The new facility will showcase our numerous products available for rent as well as provide the desperately needed space to warehouse our inventory of tents, tables, chairs, linens and a large array of catering and event merchandise. We also plan to further expand Exit 2 Storage to meet the demand for storage of recreational vehicles and boats.
