Located in Northeast Ohio, North Olmsted is a thriving suburban city situated less than 20 miles southwest of downtown Cleveland and 140 miles north of Columbus. North Olmsted is on the western edge of Cuyahoga County, which is part of the five-county Cleveland-Elyria Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

Major Highways

  • Interstate 480 (east-west to Youngstown, Elyria) – four interchanges to I-480
  • Interstate 80/Ohio Turnpike (east-west to Pittsburgh, Toledo, Detroit)
  • Interstate 71 (north-south to Cleveland, Columbus)

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE)

CLE is a public airport is located within a 10-minute drive of North Olmsted and 9 miles (14 km) southwest of the central business district of Cleveland. CLE is the largest and busiest airport in Ohio. CLE is served by 10 passenger airlines:

NASA – Glenn Research Center

NASA’s Glenn Research Center, located within a 10-minute drive of North Olmsted, researches, designs, develops and tests innovative technology for aeronautics and spaceflight. The Glenn Research Center is one of ten NASA centers. Glenn is an essential component of NASA and an integral contributor to the region.  The Glenn Research Center:

  • Makes key contributions in supporting NASA missions
  • Is a vital element of the regional economy
  • Partners with local and national businesses
  • Collaborates with colleges and universities
  • Makes significant contributions to the research, design, development and testing of technology
  • Shares the NASA message at schools, fairs and events around a six-state region (Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota)
  • Promotes science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education

The Glenn Research Center and its sister facility, Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, Ohio, enable NASA, other governmental agencies, and academic and industry partners from across the country to perform specialized research and testing.

More than 3,200 people work at Glenn, including civil servants and on-site contractors. They are a highly skilled workforce of scientists, engineers, technicians and administrative and support personnel.
