Signs are regulated in Chapter 1163 of the North Olmsted Zoning Code. The last substantial update to the sign code occurred in 2000. In addition to the need for an overall audit and update of the code, specific areas have been targeted, including but not limited to identifying proper scale of signage for businesses of varying sizes, updating temporary signage regulations, dealing with specific signage needs of drive through facilities and ensuring adequate enforcement provisions. The city has engaged Compass Point Planning to provide consulting services for this code update.
To ensure the best outcome of this project, it is important to hear from those individuals who are invested in the success of our community. Therefore, the planning process is guided by an advisory committee comprised of city staff, local business representatives and residents serving on boards and commissions who routinely deal with signage. The advisory committee meets at intervals throughout the project with our consultant to provide direction and feedback.

The Sign Code Audit includes an analysis of the existing sign code and summarizes the comments and feedback provided by the Advisory Committee and stakeholder participants. The audit provides a framework for proposed changes prior to the actual drafting of the new code language.
