Waste Water Treatment Plant
The City of North Olmsted Wastewater Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant (NOWWTP). The Department also includes the Collection Division, which oversees the transportation of wastewater through the separate sanitary sewer system and maintains 159 miles of sewers mains and 5 lift stations. The NOWWTP was originally built in 1959 and sits on a 16-acre site on the City’s southeastern border, next to the Cleveland Metroparks. Major expansions to the NOWWTP occurred in 1973, 1986, and 2015. The most recent upgrade included improvements to the treatment plant (adding biological nutrient removal) and the collection system (adding close to 2 million gallons of storage). The North Olmsted Treatment Plant is designed to treat a dry weather flow of 7 Million Gallons per Day (MGD), wet weather flow of 30 MGD, and a peak of 40 MGD. The Treatment Plant operates 24/7/365, while maintenance, collection, and support staff operate Monday-Friday. The Collection Systems responds to residential and industrial problems ranging from sewer system overflows, grease blockages, flooded basements, and odor complaints, on an emergency basis. The Department also assists with stormwater maintenance on flowing streams.
